Snowbird
The rescue was contacted in Dec of
2006 by the young woman who had Snowbird and wished to surrender her. This brave
lady realized that due to the needs of her son, who had severe medical needs and
required a lot of his mothers attention, she as Snowbird's person could not give
her the attention she deserved.. Little did she realize Snowbird had not been eating
her food, but had in fact been throwing it out of her cage. The dog had been eating
the food making it look like the nutritional needs of Snowbird were being met. In
actuality, Snowbird was starving herself and was near deaths doorstep. Upon Snowbird
being picked up it was immediately apparent to us that Snowbird needed medical attention
fast. Snowbird was taken to the Midwest Bird & Exotic Animal Hospital in Chicago,
who generously took Snowbird as an emergency patient, but did not charge us as such.
Snowbird was put on antibiotics and had to have an IV for rehydration. Snowbird
was then brought down to our Mascoutah location and it was determined that she had
severe allergies to all artificial flavoring, dyes, and preservatives, explaining
why she was not eating her pellets. So with the help of a good organic pellets Snowbird
began to eat and learned to like many fruits and vegetables. Snowbird never showed
an interest in any of the people who would have loved to give her a good home until
one day when a couple, Don and Marge, came to the rescue and it was then that Snowbird
picked her family. Snowbird has been with the Thompson family since Dec of 2008
and we are happy that it is another one of "God's Amazing Matches".

I wanted to thank Lynn
for our sweet cockatoo. She has been a loved member of our
family. She brings a smile to my face every day,and entertains us for hours. I am
so grateful for the
opportunity to have adopted snowbird.
Thanks again: Don & Margie
